Queensland Country Music Awards
Keith Urban: Many might remember the Queensland Country Music Awards, Australia. Bobby was the brainstorm of these Country Music Awards, he is a man born before his time. One winner of the many to mention, is Keith Urban. In 1980 Keith won the Junior Vocal encouragement Award. We remember the presenter of this Award, Barry Thornton saying, "I have been playing guitar for so many years and this little fellow can play better than I at his age, Congratulations Keith you will go a long way," in the 1981 Queensland Country Music Awards, Keith Urban won 2 Awards, Junior Male and the Open duo section that year with.....they called themselves Silver Spirit. Australia's top Country Music Awards being the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) Keith Urban won in 1991, New Talent of the Year for "Never Work On A Sunday" (EMI) and in 1992 Male Vocalist of the Year for "The River" (EMI). Since the he has gone on to pursue a very successful career in Country Music. Now in the USA Keith was named in 2004 Male Vocalist of the Year at the American Country Music Association (CMA) Country Music Awards Nashville Tennessee, and at the 2005 American Country Music Awards that years event were held in New York City, As well as Entertainer of the Year he was also named Male Vocalist of the Year. Reg Lindsay won the 1982 Queensland Country Music Achievement Award. Reg Lindsay supported Country Music to the hilt, Reg had a Country Music TV Show that was very successful, you will all remember "Country Homestead" screened on 30 channels around Australia.
Johnny Chester in the year 1980 won Queensland Country Music National Male Award. I remember Johnny Chester saying, "Country Music was family music and festivals enabled family groups to enjoy something together."
Johnny Ashcroft in 1981 was presented with the Queensland Country Music National Male Award, after many years of service to the country music industry Johnny Ashcroft is now retired.
Gay Kayler in 1981 won the Queensland Country Music National Female Award. Gay kayler has her spot in the Hands of Fame, Tamworth. A Great Lady.

Slim Dusty, Bob toured with him for almost a year, like many people, Bob enjoyed Slim's company. Slim always gave his audience a good show. Bob in particular admired Slim's diction, his songs and performances you could always understand what he was singing about.
